Privacy statement
3.1 We know how important it is to protect your personal data. When we ask for any personal data, or give you the opportunity to supply such data, it is solely to provide the service or information you have requested.
3.2 We do not give personal data to third parties, unless required to do so by law or as you may otherwise consent, but we may share it within our company and within the Lloyds Banking Group. This may include our employees, agents, contractors and sub-contractors.
3.3 Whenever you invest online, access policy details or Contact us using our e-forms we use a secure server. The secure server encrypts all data you input before you send it to us. We use encryption technology to ensure that your data remains secure.
3.4 We may change our privacy policies from time to time, in which case we will post the changes on this page so that you are always aware of our policies.
3.5 In addition to any personal data supplied by you, we may collect the following information:
(a) Site visits. We collect information on the pages you access. This is then used to help us develop the design and layout of our sites. This includes information on the relative popularity of each page, the average number of pages accessed, the number of e-mails sent or files downloaded, and the average time spent on the site.
(b) E-mail addresses. If you supply an e-mail address to us, it is kept in confidence and used solely to answer your enquiry or to comply with your request. We retain the content of the form or e-mail, the e-mail address and our response. We will only contact you by telephone between the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm Saturday unless you consent to or request contact outside those hours.
(d) Cookies: Cookies are small pieces of information sent by websites to the browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies are used to keep track of your online session, they are maintained only throughout one session on the site and automatically expire after 15 minutes. Our cookies do not collect any personal identifying information or confidential information such as passwords or policy numbers. With both cookies and Spotlight technology, the information that we collect and share is anonymous and not personally identifiable. 3.7 Data Protection Act 1998: We are obliged to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. Under this Act you are entitled to request a copy of the information we hold about you and if the details are inaccurate, you may request that we amend them. 3.8 Third party websites are not covered by our privacy policies.
3.9 We will never ask you for security information, such as your PIN number, you must keep this secure, and shouldn't disclose it to anyone. There have been a number of fake e-mail scams asking people to go to a website and enter confidential information such as credit card numbers or log in details. Scottish Widows will never send an e-mail asking for any policy/account numbers or security details to be recorded online. If you receive such an e-mail you should delete it immediately without responding.
3.10 The Scottish Widows website uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology where appropriate to encrypt data as it is passed to yourself and back again. SSL is now supported by all major browsers and is generally accepted as a way of doing business securely over the internet. However this technology is not 100% safe.
