Archie Kane, Chief Executive Scottish Widows & Group Executive Director (I&I)

Archie Kane
Archie Kane was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Widows on 1 October 2003. On the same day he was also appointed Group Executive Director, Insurance and Investments at Lloyds TSB Group plc.
Archie was appointed to the main board of Lloyds TSB Group on 1 January 2000 as Group Executive Director, IT & Operations for Lloyds TSB.

Prior to this, on 1 January 1997, he was appointed as Director of Group IT and Operations at Lloyds TSB. He was responsible for the overall development of Group IT Strategy, the management of Central Service IT, Operations and Systems Development, covering inter alia the core Lloyds TSB Bank systems. He was also responsible for Group Operations, Group Property Services, Group Business Transformation and the Bank's Group Property Portfolio.

Archie has been with the bank since 1986 and in 1989 was appointed to Director of Financial Control for the Retail Banking Division. Before joining TSB, Archie had already enjoyed a successful career outside banking culminating as Finance Director of BT Yellow Pages Sales Division. He has also spent several years abroad, working in most Northern European countries, Africa and the United States.

Archie is Chairman of the Association of British Insurers (since 2007) and a member of the Takeover Panel and HM Treasury’s Retail Financial Services Group.

Christian Torkington, Managing Director of Operations, Scottish Widows

Christian Torkington
Christian Torkington joined Scottish Widows in July 2004 as IT Director and was appointed as Managing Director, Operations in August 2005. His responsibilities include managing all customer service, business operations and IT for Scottish Widows.

Christian started his career as a chartered accountant which included time in Hong Kong with KPMG, before spending many years as a management consultant with Coopers and Lybrand and PA Consulting. Christian also held a number of senior positions within Barclays Bank plc prior to joining Scottish Widows.

Christian is also non-executive director of the Student Loans Company.

Jim McConville, Finance Director (I&I)

Jim McConville
Jim McConville was appointed Finance Director of the Insurance and Investments Division of the Lloyds TSB Group in October 2000. Jim sits on the Scottish Widows Group board and is the Chairman of Scottish Widows Bank.

Jim originally joined TSB Scotland in 1988 and, before moving to Scottish Widows, held a number of senior Finance roles and was the Lloyds TSB Group Strategy, Monitoring and Planning Director. Previously, Jim worked for Coopers and Lybrand.

Jean Park, Risk Management Director (I&I)

Jean Park
Jean joined Scottish Widows in August 1998 and has held a number of senior Compliance, Internal Audit and Risk roles. Post the takeover by LTSB she was responsible for integrating and developing the Risk, Compliance and Legal functions of the newly enlarged Scottish Widows group.

Jean was appointed to the Scottish Widows Executive Committee on 1 January 2004, as Risk Management Director. In this role, she has responsibility for the line functions of Risk Management, Compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley Oversight, Legal and Company Secretarial and has a dotted line oversight of the same functions in SWIP, LTSB Insurance and Scottish Widows Bank.

Prior to joining Scottish Widows, Jean was AGM (Finance) at Scottish Life and Senior Audit Manager at Ernst & Young.

Cameron Walker, Corporate Communications Director, Scottish Widows

Cameron Walker
Cameron was appointed to his role as Director of Corporate Communications for Scottish Widows in October 2004. Sitting on the Scottish Widows Executive, he has responsibility for all internal and external communications including the areas of Media Relations, Internal Communications, Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility. Previously, Cameron spent over twenty years working in Corporate Communications for a variety of FTSE 100 Companies in both the financial services and food and drink sectors, including Scottish & Newcastle plc, Safeway, The Royal Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking, Halifax Group Wholesale & Treasury and Nomura International plc, the Japanese Investment Bank. Areas of geographic responsibility covered have included the UK, Europe, US, Asia and Southern Hemisphere.

Cameron has chaired the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Scotland Group and retains close links with various Communications organisations throughout the UK as part of his professional development, such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, The Financial Services Forum Advisory Group and The Natpro Corporate Communications Group for FTSE 100 and 250 Companies.

  • M.A. Social Sciences Joint Honours Politics and Economic History Degree from Glasgow University
Married, he lives in Perthshire and enjoys various sports, reading and travel.


Kate Guthrie, HR Director (I&I)

Kate Guthrie
Kate Guthrie was appointed Human Resources Director for the Insurance and Investments Division of LloydsTSB on 29 November 2004.

Kate has more than 20 years experience in business and HR and has worked in four different industrial sectors. Prior to joining LloydsTSB, Kate worked as an HR Director with Novartis Pharmaceuticals based both in Switzerland and the UK.

Kate also spent 12 years in the drinks industry including 10 years with Diageo which is the most successful drinks company in the world. She began her career in retail with Marks and Spencer having joined them as a management trainee.

  • MSc in Human Resources Management
Married with one daughter, Kate enjoys running, cooking and keeping fit.


Adrian Eastwood, Actuarial Director, Scottish Widows

Adrian Eastwood
Adrian Eastwood was appointed as Actuarial Director of Scottish Widows In March 2000 and joined its Executive Committee in October 2005. He is responsible for providing actuarial services to all the life insurance companies in the Lloyds TSB Group.

Adrian joined Scottish Widows in 1983 and having held a number of positions, had a key role in negotiating the terms of the demutualization of Scottish Widows on behalf of its policyholders. He became Appointed Actuary to Scottish Widows plc in January 2001.

He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries and was a member of its Council, the Faculty’s governing body, from 2000 to 2008. He Chaired the Life Board and Life Practice Committee of the UK actuarial profession from 2006 to 2008.

Born in 1961, he is married with three children and lives in Edinburgh.




Andy Briggs, Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution, Scottish Widows

Andy Briggs
Andy joined Scottish Widows in January 2007, as Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution. He is responsible for the Scottish Widows P&L and market strategy, covering all Distribution, Product Development, Product Management, Brand and Marketing. He was appointed to the Scottish Widows Group Board in January 2007.

He was previously at Prudential for 19 years, where he was latterly Chief Executive of the Retirement Income business. His earlier roles included UK Distribution Director, Marketing Director and he held a number of positions in Customer Service, Actuarial and Finance.

  • BSC (Hons) – Mathematics and Operational Research – Southampton University
  • Fellow of Institute of Actuaries
Married, with 3 children, Andy enjoys travelling, golf, rugby and work with the NSPCC.


Dean Buckley, BSc (Hons), Chief Executive of SWIP

Dean Buckley
Dean Buckley joined SWIP in January 2008 from HSBC Investments where he was Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Investments UK & Middle East since 2001. Prior to that, he was Chief Investment Officer, Equities, Europe for HSBC for six years.

Before joining HSBC, Dean worked for Prudential Assurance Co Ltd for 14 years in a variety of Fund Manager roles at Prudential Portfolio Managers.

Married, with 2 children, Dean enjoys golf and keeping fit.
