Lord Leitch, Chairman of Scottish Widows

Lord Leitch
Lord Leitch joined the Lloyds TSB board in 2005. He held a number of senior general management appointments in Allied Dunbar, Eagle Star and Threadneedle Asset Management before the merger of Zurich Group and British American Tobacco’s financial services businesses in 1998. Subsequently served as chairman and chief executive officer of Zurich Financial Services UK, Ireland, South Africa and Asia Pacific, until his retirement in 2004.

He was also Chairman of the government’s Review of Skills and deputy chairman of the Commonwealth Education Fund and Chairman of BUPA and Intrinsic Financial Services Non-executive director of Paternoster and United Business Media. He also served as a Former chairman of the National Employment Panel.


Chris Wiscarson, Director of Group IT & Operations, Lloyds TSB Group

Chris Wiscarson
Chris spent the first part of his career in the UK life assurance industry before moving to South Africa in 1979 as General Manager of Southern Life, the financial services subsidiary of Anglo-American De Beers.

In 1986, he returned to England to take up the position of Chief Executive of Save & Prosper Insurance in London. In 1990, he became European Director of the Lloyds Abbey Life Group, and in 1991 took up the position of Group Finance Director before taking responsibility for the Bancassurance subsidiary of the Lloyds Bank Group. Over the next five years, the profitability of Lloyds TSB Life doubled and the subsidiary commanded the largest market share in the UK bancassurance industry by a significant margin.

At the beginning of 2000, Chris took responsibility for the non-UK businesses in the Lloyds TSB Group, participating in 30 countries and making an annual profit of almost £400m. He was appointed Director of Group IT & Operations in October 2003.

Archie Kane, Chief Executive Scottish Widows & Group Executive Director (I&I)

Archie Kane
Archie Kane was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Widows on 1 October 2003. On the same day he was also appointed Group Executive Director, Insurance and Investments at Lloyds TSB Group plc.
Archie was appointed to the main board of Lloyds TSB Group on 1 January 2000 as Group Executive Director, IT & Operations for Lloyds TSB.

Prior to this, on 1 January 1997, he was appointed as Director of Group IT and Operations at Lloyds TSB. He was responsible for the overall development of Group IT Strategy, the management of Central Service IT, Operations and Systems Development, covering inter alia the core Lloyds TSB Bank systems. He was also responsible for Group Operations, Group Property Services, Group Business Transformation and the Bank's Group Property Portfolio.

Archie has been with the bank since 1986 and in 1989 was appointed to Director of Financial Control for the Retail Banking Division. Before joining TSB, Archie had already enjoyed a successful career outside banking culminating as Finance Director of BT Yellow Pages Sales Division. He has also spent several years abroad, working in most Northern European countries, Africa and the United States.

Archie is Chairman of the Association of British Insurers (since 2007) and a member of the Takeover Panel and HM Treasury’s Retail Financial Services Group.

Norval Bryson, Non-Executive Director of Scottish Widows

Norval Bryson
Norval was appointed to the board of Scottish Widows in October 2005 as a non-executive director. From 1974 to 2001 he worked at Scottish Provident, fulfilling various roles including pensions manager and investment manager before becoming a Director in 1991. Norval is married with three adult children.

Christian Torkington, Managing Director of Operations, Scottish Widows

Christian Torkington
Christian Torkington joined Scottish Widows in July 2004 as IT Director and was appointed as Managing Director, Operations in August 2005. His responsibilities include managing all customer service, business operations and IT for Scottish Widows.

Christian started his career as a chartered accountant which included time in Hong Kong with KPMG, before spending many years as a management consultant with Coopers and Lybrand and PA Consulting. Christian also held a number of senior positions within Barclays Bank plc prior to joining Scottish Widows.

Christian is also non-executive director of the Student Loans Company.

Jim McConville, Finance Director (I&I)

Jim McConville
Jim McConville was appointed Finance Director of the Insurance and Investments Division of the Lloyds TSB Group in October 2000. Jim sits on the Scottish Widows Group board and is the Chairman of Scottish Widows Bank.

Jim originally joined TSB Scotland in 1988 and, before moving to Scottish Widows, held a number of senior Finance roles and was the Lloyds TSB Group Strategy, Monitoring and Planning Director. Previously, Jim worked for Coopers and Lybrand.

Andy Briggs, Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution, Scottish Widows

Andy Briggs
Andy joined Scottish Widows in January 2007, as Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution. He is responsible for the Scottish Widows P&L and market strategy, covering all Distribution, Product Development, Product Management, Brand and Marketing. He was appointed to the Scottish Widows Group Board in January 2007.

He was previously at Prudential for 19 years, where he was latterly Chief Executive of the Retirement Income business. His earlier roles included UK Distribution Director, Marketing Director and he held a number of positions in Customer Service, Actuarial and Finance.

Married, with 3 children, Andy enjoys travelling, golf, rugby and work with the NSPCC.


Dean Buckley, BSc (Hons), Chief Executive of SWIP

Dean Buckley
Dean Buckley joined SWIP in January 2008 from HSBC Investments where he was Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Investments UK & Middle East since 2001. Prior to that, he was Chief Investment Officer, Equities, Europe for HSBC for six years.

Before joining HSBC, Dean worked for Prudential Assurance Co Ltd for 14 years in a variety of Fund Manager roles at Prudential Portfolio Managers.

Married, with 2 children, Dean enjoys golf and keeping fit.


Jeremy Goford, Non-Executive Director of Scottish Widows

Jeremy Goford
Jeremy was appointed to the board of Scottish Widows in November 2007 as a non-executive director. Jeremy began his career with Equity & Law in 1966 and then joined Tillinghast in 1973 at its foundation. He held a number of senior appointments in Tillinghast at various times between 1973 and 2004. During these times, he also held roles in Skandia Life and Barclays Financial Services. Jeremy was the President of the Institute of Actuaries from 2002 to 2004.

Jeremy is also a non-executive director of Paternoster UK Ltd.


Phil Loney, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Insurance

Phil Loney
Phil originally joined Lloyds Bank in June 1986 as a Graduate Trainee. He went on to hold several management positions within the Life & Pensions division of the Group and in 1991 was appointed Director of Lloyds Bank Insurance Direct, responsible for the start up of the direct insurance operation in Bournemouth.

In 1995 he left Lloyds Bank to gain wider commercial experience and held a number of senior executive positions within the financial services sector, including Saga Services, Sales & Marketing Director; CGU Insurance, Managing Director ­ Direct Business; AXA Life, Chief Operations Officer. He was appointed Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Insurance on 1st September 2003.

Phil is married with two young daughters and lives in Bristol. He is a keen Chelsea supporter and a youth worker in his church.
