Our history
The Scottish Widows Fund Life Assurance Society - Scotland's first mutual life office - opened for business in 1815. It was located at the home of its first manager, William Wotherspoon, close to the west end of what is now Chambers Street in Edinburgh.
Now part of the Lloyds TSB Group, we have gone from strength to strength over the last 191 years and with well-established multi-channel sales, Scottish Widows is able to deliver value for money for all its customers.

- Our product range includes long term insurance (such as life assurance, pensions, annuities and permanent health insurance) and savings and investment products.

Key Dates
- March 2000 Scottish Widows demutualised and became part of the Lloyds TSB Group.
- 1995 Scottish Widows Bank was launched and currently offers a range of savings, loans and mortgage products.
- 1815 Scottish Widows Mutual Life founded in Edinburgh as Scotland's first mutual life office.
